H1N1 Flu Monitoring Continues
Friday May 1, 2009
Grundy County EOC and the Public Health Staff continue to carefully monitor the H1N1 (Swine) Flu activity in Grundy County and across Illinois.
As of 10a.m. Central Daylight time today, there are 51 probable cases in eight (8) counties throughout Illinois.
There are three (3) confirmed cases.
At this time there are no probable cases in Grundy County.
We can not emphasize enough the importance of frequent hand washing.
Frequent hand washing with soap and warm water provides protection against a wide range of infectious diseases, including influenza.
Influenza symptoms include fatigue, coughing, sneezing, watery eyes and a low grade fever.
Vomiting and diarrhea are generally not associated with seasonal influenza, but may be present in Swine Flu cases.
Persons with Influenza symptoms are urged to consult a health care provider.
It is important to emphasize that people who feel ill should stay home until the illness subsides completely.
Medications that may be useful in terms of fighting the illness are currently available only through a health care provider and a written prescription. The public will be notified immediately if that changes, via all forms of local media (radio, newspapers and county website.)
