H1N1 Flu Monitoring Continues

The Grundy County Health Dept has received a small shipment of H1N1 vaccine.

A walk-in clinic is scheduled for Thursday, October 29 at 2PM, at the Grundy County Health Dept, 1320 Union Street, Morris.

The clinic will start at 2PM until all vaccine is exhausted. Staff will issue numbers to alleviate persons waiting in line only to find out vaccine may be gone. The amount received was 100 intranasal vaccines and 100 injectable.

The intranasal vaccine is ONLY for healthy persons age 2-49 without underlying health conditions such as asthma, diabetes, etc.

Children under the age of 9 should receive a second vaccine in no less than 28 days after the first vaccine. It can be more than 28 days.

Vaccine will be administered to persons determined by CDC to be priority. That list includes pregnant women, persons who care for children under the age of 6 months, healthcare workers and first responders, children 6 months to age 24 and persons age 25 to 64 with underlying health conditions.

If a person has received a live vaccine such as seasonal flu intranasal or measles, mumps and rubella or chicken pox vaccine, they must wait 28 days before receiving intranasal H1N1 vaccine.

Children under the age of 18 must be accompanied by a parent or written permission from their parent to receive the vaccine while accompanied by someone over the age of 18.

The Grundy County Health Department encourages everyone to help stop the spread of flu this season. Remember the 3 C’s.

  • Clean - wash your hands frequently
  • Cover your cough with a tissue or sleeve
  • Contain your germs by staying home if you are sick. Do not return to work or school until you have been 24 hours without a fever and without taking anti-fever medication.
The Grundy County Health Dept has received a small shipment of seasonal flu vaccine for children 6 months to 18 years. This vaccine is provided through the Vaccine For Children Program for the state of Illinois. To be eligible for this vaccine, the child must be enrolled in Medicaid, not have health insurance to pay for the vaccine or be an American Indian or Alaskan Native. Please call 815-941-3419 to schedule and appointment.

Per the CDC, persons who will be receiving the vaccine first are:
  • Pregnant women
  • Healthcare workers and first responders
  • Persons who care for children under the age of 6 months
  • Children 6 months to age 24
  • Persons aged 25 to 64 with underlying health conditions
