Absentee Voting (Mail-in and In-person) for
the March 20, 2012 General Primary Election is from February 9, 2012 thru March 15, 2012.
Per Public Act 96-0533, efective August 17, 2009, a person may request and vote an absentee ballot
without specifying a reason for the absence from the polling place on Election Day.
To vote by Absentee Ballot in Grundy County, you must be a Registered Voter
in Grundy County.
ABSENTEE VOTING BY MAIL is a convenient way to cast your ballot if you are unable to get to
your polling place on Election Day or to cast your ballot during Early Voting.
The first day Illinois Election law allows the County Clerk to mail an absentee application and/or ballot
is 40 days before the election. The last day a Ballot can be mailed by the Election Authority is 5 days
prior to the election.
TO OBTAIN AN ABSENTEE BALLOT you must first complete AN APPLICATION for an Absentee
Ballot. To request an application you may contact the County Clerk’s office by –

Return the completed Absentee Application to the County Clerk’s office and an Absentee Ballot will
be mailed to you.
If you apply for an Absentee Ballot and later decide you want to vote at the polls, you must
surrender your Absentee Ballot to the Judges of Election at your Polling place.
If an absentee voting is done by mail, the voted ballot must be placed into the certification envelope provided. The certification on the envelope must be completed, signed, and the envelope sealed. Absentee ballots must all be personally returned or mailed to the election authority.
Voted Ballots may be personally delivered to the County Clerk’s office NO LATER than Election Day before 7:00 P.M. There is a limited exception permitting ballot return by spouse, parent, child, sibling or licensed delivery service where the authorization form is completed.
Mailed absentee ballots must be postmarked no later than midnight on the night prior to the election, and must be received within 14 days of the election.
All absentee ballots are processed at the County Clerk’s office.
ABSENTEE VOTING FOR MILITARY MEMBERS/SPOUSES and OVERSEAS VOTERS
The Federal Postcard Application (FPCA) is a form provided by the Department of Defense to permit
members of the U.S. Armed Forces, their dependents and U. S. citizens abroad to vote by Absentee
Ballot and, if necessary, to Register to Vote.
Illinois law allows for you to register to vote and apply for an absentee ballot at the same time within
certain guidelines
This Postcard Application MUST BE SUBMITTED by MAIL or FAX to the Grundy County Clerk’s
office before an Absentee Ballot will be mailed to the voter.

ABSENTEE VOTING IN PERSON may be completed by any qualified Grundy County
registered voter not more than 40 days or less than 1 day prior to the election. You will be asked to
fill out an Application for an Absentee Ballot. You will then be given an Absentee Ballot.
The following County office will conduct Mail-In and In-Person Absentee voting for all of Grundy County for the March 20, 2012 General Primary Election.
