POLLWATCHERS

Candidates, political parties, civic organizations and organized groups of proponents for and opponents to a proposition on the ballot may appoint pollwatchers.  The role of the pollwatcher is established by law.  Pollwatchers may be present to observe the conduct of the election before the polls open, during the day and after the polls close.

A pollwatcher must be registered to vote in the State of Illinois and must be affiliated with the Political Party he/she is representing.  (In primary election, candidates are allowed two (2) pollwatchers per precinct.)  IF two pollwatchers are appointed by a candidate or political party to serve in the same polling place at the same time, one must be a registered voter in that precinct.  Each pollwatcher must have separate pollwatcher credentials.

Each pollwatcher must surrender his credentials to the judges when he enters the polling place.  The pollwatcher must also sign the POLLWATCHER REGISTER.  If an individual refuses to surrender his credentials or if the credentials are not valid, he must leave.  All credentials remain in the possession of the judges.  Credentials are returned to the Election Authority after the polls close.

WRITE-IN CANDIDATES

If you wish to be a write-in candidate, you must complete a Declaration of Intent to be a Write-In Candidate, by 5 p.m. Only those write-in candidates who filed a Declaration of Intent will be counted.

Call County Clerk's office for information (815) 941-3222

CASTING A WRITE-IN VOTE

When using a paper ballot (Optical Scan), select the office you wish to vote for, darken the oval to the LEFT of the blank space provided and write in the candidate’s name in that space.  For specific information, refer to the card of instruction posted in the voting booth.  If you tear, spoil, deface or erroneously mark your ballot, return it to the election judge and obtain another ballot before you cast your vote!

When using the Touch Screen, touch the box beside Write-In.  A touch keyboard appears on the screen.  Type in the candidates name exactly as it should appear.  Touch the Record Write-In button to record this candidate.  Touch the Cancel button to return to the ballot without recording a candidate’s name.
