Grace Period Registration and Voting

Grace period registration in an extension of the regular registration deadline.  Grace period registration authorizes procedures for the registration of voters and for change of address during the period from the close of registration for an election through Election Day.  Traditional voter registration period closes 28 days prior to the election.  Grace period registration extends that deadline from the 27th day prior to an election through Election Day.  Grace period registration is available prior to Election Day at the Grundy County Clerk’s Office and Temporary Early Voting sites.  It is available on Election Day in the polling locations and at the Grundy County Clerk’s Office.  Once a person casts a grace period ballot it shall not be permitted to be revoked and vote another ballot on Election Day (March 19th General Primary Election).

If a person who registers to vote or changes their address during grace period wishes to vote at the General Primary Election (March 19th) during this grace period, they must do so in-person at the same time the voter registers.  The requirements for grace period registration and voting are: U.S. citizenship; at least 18 years of age by the General Election, November 5, 2024 and resident of the precinct at least 30 days prior to Election Day.  Two forms of identification is required.  One that has both current name and address and the other with current name.

GRUNDY COUNTY ELDERLY AND HANDICAPPED VOTERS

Please be advised that the following voting aids are available to assist elderly and handicapped voters in the General Primary Election March 19, 2024:

VERITY TOUCH WRITER                             
Allows handicapped and elderly voters to vote independently and in private with this ballot marking device.

MAGNIFIERS                                                
To assist voters who have visual problems.

HANDICAPPED VOTING BOOTHS             
For voters who must vote from a seated position.

BALLOT BUZZERS                                       
To allow voters to summon Election Judges to help them enter the polling place.

VOTING ASSISTANCE                                  
Handicapped and Elderly voters requiring help may be assisted by a friend, relative or by the Election Judges.

CURBSIDE VOTING                                      
Available for voters who are physically unable to enter the polling place. Call the Grundy County Clerk’s Office  at (815) 941-3222 for information.

VOTER REGISTRATION                               
Call the County Clerk’s Office at (815) 941-3222 for locations throughout the county, for the Registrar nearest you, or if special arrangements need to be made.

VOTE BY MAIL                                              
Voters who wish to cast a Vote by Mail ballot may contact the County Clerk’s Office to obtain the necessary forms if voting by mail or directions to the Early Voting location if voting in person.

Petition Filing Dates for March 19, 2024 General Primary Election

MORRIS, IL – Grundy County Clerk Kay Olson reminds candidates that the first day to file petitions for the March 19, 2024 General Primary Election, is Monday, November 27, 2023 beginning at 8:00 a.m.  Filing will continue through Monday, December 4, 2023.

Offices up for nomination are Circuit Clerk, Coroner, State’s Attorney, and County Board Members for Districts 1, 2, & 3.  Precinct Committeemen will also be filing petitions for election at the March Primary.

Simultaneous filing for the same office, at the 8:00 a.m. filing time, will result in a lottery to determine ballot placement.  Petition packets received, through the mail, on the first day of filing, will also be considered filed at 8:00 a.m.  Candidates who file on the last day, between the hours of 4:00 p.m. – 5:00 p.m., will also be entered into a lottery to determine ballot placement.

The County Clerk’s Office is located at the Grundy County Courthouse, 111 E. Washington St., Room 12, Morris.  Office hours are Monday – Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.  The Clerk’s Office will be open until 5:00 p.m., on Monday December 4th for the last day of filing.

Dates to remember –
Nov. 27, 2023 – First day for candidates of established political parties to file petitions.
Dec.  4, 2023 – Last day for candidates of established political parties to file petitions, until 5:00 p.m.
Dec. 11, 2023 – Last day for filing objections to nomination papers of candidates who filed during the Nov. 27 – Dec. 4, 2023 filing period.Jan. 18, 2024 –   Last day to file a Declaration of Intent to be a write-in candidate.

Petition Filing Dates for March 19, 2024 General Primary Election

MORRIS, IL – Grundy County Clerk Kay Olson announced that established political party Grundy County candidates wishing to appear on the March 19, 2024 General Primary ballot may begin picking up petition packets from the County Clerk’s Office, beginning Tuesday, September 5, 2023, at 8:00 a.m.  Candidates may also download the packets from the County Clerk’s website at www.grundycountyil.gov, under ‘Election Information’, and may also request a petition packet by e-mail, by contacting the Clerk’s Office at elections@grundycountyil.gov.

The first day to circulate petitions for signatures is Tuesday, September 5, 2023.  Grundy County Offices to be nominated at the Primary include: Circuit Clerk, Coroner, State’s Attorney and County Board Members for Districts 1, 2, and 3.  Precinct Committeepersons will be elected at the General Primary Election.

Petitions may be filed in person by the candidate, or a candidate representative, beginning Monday, November 27th thru Monday, December 4, 2023.  The Clerk’s Office is open from 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., and will be open until 5:00 p.m. on the last day of filing.  Petitions may also be filed by mail, by mailing to: Grundy County Clerk, 111 E. Washington St., Room 12, Morris IL  60450; however, they must be returned by Monday, December 4th.  Petitions received before the first day of filing cannot be accepted.

Please note that the County Clerk and staff cannot provide legal opinions regarding petition papers.  Prospective candidates are encouraged to consult their own legal advisors on questions related to their petition packets.  Once petition papers are filed, they cannot be changed or amended.  Please note that a candidate’s nominating papers are subject to legal challenge by qualified objectors.

PUBLIC TEST OF AUTOMATIC TABULATING EQUIPMENT

Notice is hereby given that the Public Test of the Verity Scan, in-precinct tabulating equipment and program to be used at the March 19, 2024 General Primary Election, will be conducted in the office of the Grundy County Clerk, Room 12, Courthouse, Morris, Illinois at 1:00 p.m., on Wednesday, February 7, 2024.  As prescribed by the Election Code, this test is open to representatives of the political parties, the press, representatives of the State Board of Elections and the public.
