Grace Period Registration and Voting
Grace period registration in an extension of the regular registration deadline. Grace period registration authorizes procedures for the registration of voters and for change of address during the period from the close of registration for an election through Election Day. Traditional voter registration period closes 28 days prior to the election. Grace period registration extends that deadline from the 27th day prior to an election through Election Day. Grace period registration is available prior to Election Day at the Grundy County Clerk’s Office and Temporary Early Voting sites. It is available on Election Day in the polling locations and at the Grundy County Clerk’s Office. Once a person casts a grace period ballot it shall not be permitted to be revoked and vote another ballot on Election Day (March 19th General Primary Election).
If a person who registers to vote or changes their address during grace period wishes to vote at the General Primary Election (March 19th) during this grace period, they must do so in-person at the same time the voter registers. The requirements for grace period registration and voting are: U.S. citizenship; at least 18 years of age by the General Election, November 5, 2024 and resident of the precinct at least 30 days prior to Election Day. Two forms of identification is required. One that has both current name and address and the other with current name.

MORRIS, IL – Grundy County Clerk Kay Olson reminds candidates that the first day to file petitions for the March 19, 2024 General Primary Election, is Monday, November 27, 2023 beginning at 8:00 a.m. Filing will continue through Monday, December 4, 2023.
Offices up for nomination are Circuit Clerk, Coroner, State’s Attorney, and County Board Members for Districts 1, 2, & 3. Precinct Committeemen will also be filing petitions for election at the March Primary.
Simultaneous filing for the same office, at the 8:00 a.m. filing time, will result in a lottery to determine ballot placement. Petition packets received, through the mail, on the first day of filing, will also be considered filed at 8:00 a.m. Candidates who file on the last day, between the hours of 4:00 p.m. – 5:00 p.m., will also be entered into a lottery to determine ballot placement.
The County Clerk’s Office is located at the Grundy County Courthouse, 111 E. Washington St., Room 12, Morris. Office hours are Monday – Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. The Clerk’s Office will be open until 5:00 p.m., on Monday December 4th for the last day of filing.

Notice is hereby given that the Public Test of the Verity Scan, in-precinct tabulating equipment and program to be used at the March 19, 2024 General Primary Election, will be conducted in the office of the Grundy County Clerk, Room 12, Courthouse, Morris, Illinois at 1:00 p.m., on Wednesday, February 7, 2024. As prescribed by the Election Code, this test is open to representatives of the political parties, the press, representatives of the State Board of Elections and the public.
