Grundy County Recorder:
The Grundy County Recorder is elected by the citizens of Grundy County for a four-year term, as set forth in the Constitution of the State of Illinois.
The Recorder’s Office is established by Illinois State statute as the legal repository for land records in Grundy County. In essence, we are a government library for documents concerning the ownership of property. When a document is recorded, our office assigns it a unique Document Recording Number, and then enters the document into a county-wide database. Copies of the actual document are stored on digital media. The original is returned to the owner. The office stores copies of recorded documents dating back to Grundy County’s inception in 1841. We can provide copies of all documents. Fees for these services are set by County Ordinances and State statue.
The Grundy County Recorder’s Office (Room 11) is located on the main floor, in the Courthouse, in historic downtown Morris, Illinois, on the corner of Washington, Franklin and Liberty Streets.
The Grundy County Recorder’s Office is now processing Form PTAX-203 through MyDec. (October 2015)
MyDec is a free, online program that the Illinois Department of Revenue has developed for your use. This website allows the user to file Transfer Tax Declarations online, and view Declarations already created. Additionally, users can track the status of, and make corrections to the Declaration during the recording process.
We invite individuals, law firms, settlement agencies and financial institutions to sign-up to use this new system.

The Grundy County Recorder’s office now offers remote access that allows you to search land records 24 hours a day.
You are always welcome to visit our office to make use of our free public terminals to search information. If this is not convenient, listed below are the options available to you for searching Grundy County land records online.

Log-in with at least $1.00.
To print a document, pay as you go, $1.00 per page.
Free public access will allow you to see the details of the document.

Grundy County Recorder’s Office has made available online data and document images from 1986 to present*.
– Search parameters include party name, recorded data range, and document type.
– Documents July 1986 to May 1994 are partially indexed by name.
– *Complete indexing from May 2, 1994 to current.
