Purpose / About:

To promote a safe, healthy, balanced community that preserves our natural resources and educates our residents to continue this pursuit for future generations of Grundy residents while providing for the safety of the community in the construction of structures. The Land Use Department has three departments to serve Grundy County’s needs. The Environmental & Resource Conservation, the Building and Zoning and the Planning Offices are the fabric that makes up our Land Use Department.

Environmental & Resource Conservation Office:Purpose/Goal:

Click Here to View Environmental & Resource Conservation Organizational Chart To provide Grundy County with educational resources, grant program opportunities, for the protection and recycling of natural resources (the Four Rs of recycling, reducing, reusing, and respecting the Earth) while enforcing the Grundy County requirements for the proper disposal of solid and hazardous waste.

Building and Zoning OfficePlanning Office:
Purpose/Goal:

Click Here to View Planning Office Organizational Chart The Planning Office of the Grundy County Land Use Department functions to provide current and future Grundy County residents with a plan that will protect our natural resources, balance growth, provide transportation plan that will meet the changing population and provide economic growth opportunities for industrial and commercial users. The Planning Office evaluates concept plans, preliminary and final plats, map amendments for compliance with the current Comprehensive Plan, compliance with the Stormwater Ordinance, conditional uses, text amendments and comprehensive planning for the land uses, transportation of Grundy County.

Committees:

  • Planning and Zoning Committee The Planning and Zoning Committee consists of all County Board Members and reviews and recommends all preliminary and final plts, map amendments, conditional uses and text amendments to the Building and Zoning Codes and all matters pertaining to the Land Use Department Building, Zoning, and Planning offices.   The Planning and Zoning Committee meets the 4th Wednesday of the month at 4:30pm.
  • Regional Planning Commission The commission sees Map Amendments, Conditional Uses, Preliminary Plats, and Final Plats.  Planning Commission meets the 4th Tuesday of each month in the County Board Room at 5:30pm.
  • Zoning Board of Appeals The board sees Map Amendments, Text Amendments, Conditional Uses, and Variances.  Zoning Board meets the 3rd Tuesday of each month in the County Board Room at 7:00pm.
  • Stormwater Commission The Grundy County Stormwater Commission is currently overseeing the draft formation of County-wide Stormwater Ordinance.  The Commission will, once the ordinance is adopted, manage Grundy County for compliance to this ordinance and work cooperatively with County-wide sotormwater management issues.  The Grundy County Stormwater Commission currently meets every other month on the 3rd Monday of the month at 10:30 am at the Grundy County Administration Building.

Procedure for Making Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) Requests:

  1. Place a request for copies of documents in writing providing a detailed description of the documents requested.
  2. Submit request to the Grundy County Land Use Department at the address provided above.
Fees:

  • First 50 pages are free; after that we will charge $0.15/page.
